In Support of World Mental Health Day
In recognition of World Mental Health Day 2024 the Hand-n-Hand peer support
charity will convene a networking event on 15 October 2024 at Element, Richmond,
Victoria.
Dr Kym Jenkins, Chair of the Board said, “It is time to prioritise mental health in the
workplace through accessible peer support. Hand-n-Hand is a perfect fit.”
Hand-n-Hand provides free, confidential, and independent peer support for all health
professionals, care staff and non-clinical staff in Australia and New Zealand. Both
one-on-one and group peer support are available.
Young Queenslander of the Year 2022 and charity founder Dr Tahnee Bridson, said,
“we founded the charity in response to the stress and emotional burden on our
nurses and doctors during the pandemic.”
Attending the event will be representatives from sponsors and partners of Hand-n-
Hand, Parliamentarians, the Australian government, peak bodies, and educational
institutions.
Professor Brett McDermott AM said, “we know peer support is an effective pre-
clinical mental health intervention. We commissioned research into making the
connection between peer support and improved resilience. On 15th October at
Element, we will release early findings from this research.”
